Day 11: Uphill, In the Snow, Both Ways!

Today we found that enigmatic place your parents or grandparents must have been talking about when they told us all those seemingly ridiculous stories. You know, the ones about walking uphill to school, barefoot, through the snow both ways (apparently Mike's families' version also involved broken glass. Different neighborhoods I guess).

We finally hit the Redwoods last night and found a really pretty campsite in the north end of the park called Florence Keller campground. Camping last night was freezing, and a little dramatic, but we made it until morning. We started today with a hike along a section of the Coastal Trail called "The Last Chance." It seriously must have been that uphill climb both ways because it was a crazy climb! There was no snow on the ground, but we figured that must have been because it's summer. We figure when it's time for school, snow will be back. And glass, for Mike's relatives.

After a significant workout on that trail (sorry, we didn't find the school, we're just not as tough as those storytellers) we picnicked at Lagoon Creek. We then found another amazing trail, the DeMartin section of the Coastal Trail, that was the gateway to fairyland! Seriously, it was so amazing, mushrooms, sunlight that looked like it belonged in a fairy tale streaming through the trees, old growth trees , huge ferns.

Seriously, the Redwoods are amazing. I feel like I'm in fairyland, and Mike's excited that he can now tell his future children stories about when he hiked uphill both ways (which will most certainly be embellished with snow, glass, or some other intense problem).
Me in fairyland!

He's totally a treehugger... :)
Crazy wildlife in the Redwoods!
Crazy big trees!
