Travel Plans!
Check out the map and comment on any "must-dos" in any of the areas that we've noted (or short stops between them). We plan to leave from Salt Lake City, UT, travel up to Yellowstone, to Seattle, down through California and across to the Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce, through Denver to Katie's wedding in Kansas, possibly through St. Louis to Ohio to visit Mike's family, up to Niagara Falls, and then back through Wyoming to Utah. Check out our stops and comment if you have any more!!!
The Inception of an Idea
To explain where we are (and where we are going) I have to explain how this all started. To do so, please enter your time machine and travel with me, back to October 2011. Imagine a cold, rainy day in Utah, where I was running around with a couple of awesome friends.
While trying to figure out what to do in the rain, we passed the Bookshelf (a local comic & book store) and noticed a Going Out of Business sale sign. One more business had succumb to Amazon's power. Anyway, we entered the store, and although I was more interested in teasing Devin about the non-value of comics and video games than actually looking for books, I stumbled upon a book that reminded me of a Western version of Kerouac's On The Road. (If you don't know this book, go read it, now!) I was feeling lost, unable to decide whether I should stay in Hawaii or move...somewhere. The book led to the idea to take a year off, travel around the US and decide where I wanted to live and what I wanted to do there.
Back to the time machine, and fast forward to late November. I met this awesome man who, for some crazy reason, enjoys my insanity (at least to a point). I mentioned the road trip idea in a conversation about the summer, while also telling him I had applied for a summer job in Phoenix. He replied that if I didn't get the job, he would be down for the road trip (well, a shortened summer version anyway).
Another time machine to January 18. I got a call about the job. I was waitlisted. Spoke to Mike and we began to plan for a trip.
..and finally, to February 10. We bought plane tickets for 50 days out of Hawaii (49 days on the mainland- a perfect square number, according to my math teacher boyfriend, and the inspiration for the title of this blog)!
I'll be posting updates about the planning for and execution of this trip, so stay tuned!
